what about the nikon d40x... does it have the same lens compatability issues?

i've been looking to get a camera... and honestly, i've always liked canon more for some reason. but i'd rather have SD memory. so i think nikon is the way to go for me.

Nikon or Pentax...

and yes it's the same Lens issue because it's almost the same camera as the D40 except the captor. And seriously lens issue is a little bit overkill... unless you're a professional doing photoshoot all the time you will probably not change lenses except in rare occasion. So if you get a D40 and can have a "do it all" lense (18-200) for exemple, you will probably never change it so I don't think it's a big issue. And they have other lenses for the D40 too that would satisfy your needs. So honestly unless you really are picky and a professional you will find everything you want in the D40.

I was watching C.S.I. and I noticed that they use Nikon cameras... I wonder what model. Does anyone know?

I believe it's a D200 - I saw that on the camera strap on one of the recent shows.

Sorry, but that's not true at all. I'm not even close to a professional, but there are different lenses you NEED for different situations. Especially low-light. There is not a single 3rd party f2.8 zoom lens that is compatible with the d40/x. This is a HUGE drawback as the least expensive Nikon equivalent is $1200. (Tamron, Sigma, and Tokina versions sell for $300-400). Also, none of nikon's Prime (non-zooming) lenses under 105mm are compatible. These are essential to low-light shooting with their blazing fast apertures (f1.4-1.8).

So if you plan on doing indoor photography, do not get the d40/x. At least not at this point. Rumor has it that Nikon is going to release 15 new lenses in the next month or so. Maybe they are updating a lot of their primes to have AF-S (Which will mean compatibility w/ the d40/x).

Tell you the truth, I didn't pay much attention other than the model. Not in my price range any time soon.
