Thumbs up The Recipe Thread

Here's a thread to put some good healthy recipes.

Veggie Breakfast Omelette

- 1 whole egg, 4 egg whites
- 1/8 cup Kraft 2% shredded cheese
- diced zucchini, yellow squash, onion, green pepper, portobello mushroom
- cilantro
- dash of pepper

Beat eggs. Pour into non-stick pan. Throw the veggies, cilantro and pepper in there. This is easier if you scramble them instead of making an omelette. I can't seem to flip omelettes without screwing them up

I dice up the veggies and put them in little tupperware containers so I can just grab those each morning and throw the veggies in with the eggs.

This is a great recipe for those that hate egg whites. The cheese and the one whole egg change the texture quite a bit (especially the cheese). I can't eat pure egg whites - they make me want to

You can use whatever veggies you like and use more egg whites too if you want.

We use Egg Beaters all the time. They're more expensive, but since I usually eat eggs in the morning before rushing off to work, I'll pay for the convenience of not having to de-yolk my eggs.

i eat 20 to 30 egg whites a day. it takes an extra 3 minutes to crack the eggs and seperate them....but I guess thats cause I am use to it, and I like the way they taste.

And you've also got to figure that the vast majority of the people coming in here aren't looking to compete professionally, as you do. Having a "career" at stake over your protein intake would certainly be a good impetus to go ahead and separate my yolks myself, too.

Actually, I am not a "pro" Thanks for the compliment though, and one day I will be. I work a full time job on top of doing bodybuilding. And I live alone, so I have to do everything on my own. To each their own though....my point is that it really does not take that long.

its not hard to separate egs, crack the egg, dump the stuff back and forth between the shells... but i'd still rather egg beaters cuz they add some kinda fake yolk lol

Pancakes

these pancakes are da bomb!!

2 small cartons eggbeaters
1/2 cup of lo-fat cottage cheese
1 scoop protein powder (not whey, make sure it's primarily casein or soy.)
1/2 cup raw oatmeal
cinnamon to taste
vanilla extract
Toss all in the blender and whip it up. Prepare just as you make regular pancakes-i.e. pour the batter in the skillet and heat. Use butter-flavored spray Pam as your oil.

crack the egg in half, remove the top half which will then be empty. tilt the full half slightly so the white starts to drip over and catch the yolk with the empty half. repeat a couple times until all that is left in the empty half is the yolk.

there are also little egg yolk separators that you can buy at a kitchen store.

you can do it like Gold said, or do it like I do it. I crack the egg, and pour it into my hand....I let the white slide off the yolk (or pull it off) into a bowl. It's the way I have always done it and it works pretty well.

or just dump betweent he two shell halves -- be careful tho or u pierce the yolk - it takes a tad bit of practice.

they also sell egg separators - small plastic things that are like a 1/2 cup thing but have slits on the two sides and the center thing were the yolk sits - try ebay or something

When making scrambled eggs, I always add a little milk to the mixture. It does wonders for the eggs (especially if you are not using the yolks).
