can't figure out this problem. Any help?

I have a 2001 TL 145K
Sputters and jerks at 3K RPM's, all gears
If I switch to manual mode I can control it but it, shifting.
Sluggish even in manual mode.
Have done a ton of work.
Plugs, coil, fuel filter, O2 sensor, water pump, timing belt, gas additives to clean.
Any ideas what it could be?

Hi Tim, sorry I didn't see there was a reply. I had a guy doing this work and he said there were all kinds of codes and one thing pointed to another. He kept following them and doing things until he said, this will never stop. I have followed everything it has told me and I can't do anymore. My son is driving the car only as needed using the manual shift and getting terrible mileage. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I asked the mechanic and he said, he would have to see if he still has the notes on it. He said "maybe it was the cadylitic converter".
Just for trying I did add a gas additive to see if that would do anything.
Terrible mileage, probably in the 10 to 12 range.

I can most likely pinpoint a root cause, but I'd need to know exactly what the codes are to be able to help.
