Does it light up if you restart car promptly? Does it stay black, but you hear the "press OK" beep as it reboots?

My guess is the screen is overheating/dying. There is a chance the DVD unit is toast.

Alpine can rebuild your DVD drive for $158.

Replacing the screen is a chore, but the part is about $100

Thank you for your reply. The screen works fine on radio, phone and backup camera (after market installation). When I go to the "Diagnostic Mode" it appears that it is not acquiring the satellites. I access the diagnostic mode by pressing "MAP, Menu and Cancel" simultaneously.

My Nav screen is not working either. Interestingly, it was working when I test drove the car before buying it, but days later when I went back to make an offer, it wasn't working. They made a good enough adjustment to their asking price for me to go ahead and buy it figuring being experienced installing electronics that I could probably repair or replace it without costing too much. Astrobuf, if it's a bad screen, where can I get the part for $100 you mentioned? Or, would it be easier just to buy a used complete nav unit online or would security codes make the problematic?
