Is there a safe octane boost for the TL-S?

I have this pinging going on with the new TL-S. The dealer tells me that everything is okay with the car and to use higher octane fuel. No kidding!
The best we can get in San Diego is 91. Is there any booster I can safely add to see if indeed the fuel is the issue?

you won't have any problem putting in 100, you are just wasting money, it's not going to hurt the engine. this is a pretty darn high compression engine, with the hot weather it's possible to have a bit pinging depending on the gas

if you want, try to get an empty tank, put in 2 gallons of 100 racing fuel, and then fill up with 91. see if that helps

The 100 octane fuel I have found contains lead, and is sold for off road use only. Probably not a very good idea. This kind of pinging is certainly not good for the engine and definately not pleasant to listen to. It is discouraging to me that they sell this car with such high compression in an area that does not have the fuel to support it, and then tell me to use a higher octane fuel.
Not good.
Thanks for the reply.

it's for off-road coz' it's racing stuff, that doesn't mean anything. i am not sure about the lead stuff, but i'd be surprised you can't find 100 around. there is a 76 right around my corner where there are 100 for like 5 bucks a gallon

i don't know SD area good enough

If you can find the 100 octane "unleaded fuel it may help to mix a few gallons with your regular blend you normally fill up with.

I would also try switching gas stations if you always fill up at the same one, worth a try before dropping the $$ on expensive high octane race fuel.

What ever you do..... do not run any type of leaded fuel which it seems you already are trying to stay away from, it will definately cause damage with any kind of extended use.

speaking of which, Is V-Power from Shell rated at 93 octane even though it might say it's 91? Everyone tells me V-Power is 93 octane, every time I stopped and fill up, it says 91.

Deepvee, This is not an isolated problem. There is a thread on acurazine concerning others with this problem. Acura is still playing the denial game on the pinging. Acura tech services reps admitted to getting hundreds of calls on Type S pinging. This is the name of an Acura case mananger looking into this problem. Please call so that Acura can move on from the denial game and try to come up with a solution. The second link is a poll on the pinging issue. Please post and vote so that we can get a consensus on how bad this problem is. Hope this helps

new tl-s is pinging.... hmmmm, but no detonation, if there is the knock sensors are picking it up and the ecm is pulling timing. if its occuring often a check engine light will come on.

its under warranty. fill up with highest octane you can and beat the balls out of it, it will be fine. if not then it should fail soon under warranty, etc....
