Just bought a 92 Integra Ls

Hi guys im new to the forums. I just bought a 92 Acura Integra Ls 5- spd for $200. Lol i think i got a really good deal. The mileage is around 157k but the odometer was rolled back. So i think its probally around 180k. Anyways, i bought this car as a project car. I currently have a 95 Volvo 855 Turbo, so i come from putting some mods on that. It got me hooked on turbo cars. Now im am becoming serious on performance and am planning on doing a Turbo upgrade on the Acura. I know that these cars can be like rockets so im giving this a try. I know that the my 92 Acura Integra has a 1.8 Liter B18a eninge (correct me if im wrong), and i was doing some reading on engine swaping and i heard that the GSR engines were a good way to go and for a ez turbo kit upgrade. So currently my budget for right now will be $1500-$3000. My goal is to get the car running nicely with all the Stage0 stuff done and perhaps some minor performance upgrades if possbile. So i was wondering if you guyz can help me out. For right now i think im going to put that GSR b18c1 engine and sell the old one. Does this sound like a good idea, and i going to need a new transmission as well or can i use the current one? How much is labor going to cost to get all this done?

p.s. I will be worrying about the Turbo later on.

Thanks,

Orlando

Welcome to Acuraworld

The GS-R (b18c1) while a great N/A engine, isn't the best for turbocharging. This is due to the high compression ratio and vtec head which complicates things. You're better off getting a newer b18b2 or b20. These lower compression engines are more friendly to a forced induction set-up. Labor for a complete engine swap is going to be pretty darn expensive. If you have some friends in the business who are willing to help you out, that would be great. Or if you just have some friends who have technical knowledge, it'd make for a great project. You don't NEED a new tranny, but since you're planning on putting a lot of power into it, it would be a good idea to swap it out as well.

GSR = High Compression = Lower Boost from Turbo = not that fast.

What about an LS\VTEC conversion with a turbo? Does anyone know what sort of performance that will gain? I am considering doing that myself, so any info would help.

have to start off by saying hi, and also correcting spyder...he meant to say a b18b1...which is an ls motor...also the b20 will work....the best bang for the buck and the best setup you can have for turbo is a fully built b18b1 or b18a1 or b20....built for turbo, these guys already have 9.0:1 compression and can handle a good amount of boost on stock internals....gs-r motors and type-r motors are rated around 7psi for their internals while the ls internals can take alittle more boost...so your best bet would be to get a b18 non vtec motor, get forged internals, run a 9:1 compression and possibly have the cylinder walls strengthened by way of sleeving, etc....you will be able to run good amount of boost on a built b18b1...probably around 15psi and you will make some nasty power....do the headwork too...get some nice turbo cams with some dual valvesprings and possibly some port and polish/competition valve job.....

as for the ls/vtec turbo setup....you can yield the same results if you get some nice turbo cams for you ls head, and work the head a bit...get a port and polish and so on, and you will flow just like a b18c1 head for alittle bit less money...vtec isnt the end all for turbo...its actually meant to go the other way...vtec was meant as an all motor technology and like others said its not going to be greatly beneficial in a turbo set-up...more than likely it will make some things more difficult...

LS/VTEC + turbo is a big no no

i'm getting lazy in explaining shit lately...

LS/VTEC is highly unstable and putting a turbo on it just enhances the issues that accompany the conversion.

Thanks for correcting me BlueLS. I posted really quick before class in the morning =P
You don't want to go with an LS/VTEC head if you're going turbo. It's a waste of money. You're better of using the money for a better built engine (forged pistons, rods, crankshaft) in order to run higher boost.

Is there a thread already that covers the "How-to" regarding turbos? I am starting to lean that way with an LS motor and I am looking for info on what the best practices are for getting and installing a turbo.
