I keep good records and when I compared yesterday's odometer reading and today's I notice that the mileage had *decreased* from 196,xxx to 192,xxx. Thanks for the help. Dale |

Re the sensor connector, push the tab in with a small screwdriver. If you want to measure the resistance of the sensor, you'll have to do this. If you want to measure the voltage, though, you'll want to leave it connected and backprobe the connector instead. |

It is working most of the time so I will wait to troubleshoot until it gets to more of a problem especially since the engine does not run rich while going down the road. (If I understand your post correctly) But I did lift the bonnet and think I have found the TW sensor but a few twists and wiggles on the connector it is not obvious how to remove the connector from the sensor. Should I use a little screw driver to release a tab or what? Next issue appears to be that when trying to start the Vigor I must push harder and harder on the clutch which makes me think that a cable to a switch or whatever is stretching? Tried to squirm down under the dash to scope the problem out but not much room and too much stuff in there to see what is going on. Apparently the Vigor was meant to worked on by mechanics smaller than I am. Thanks for the help. Dale |

When you start the car, the temp sensor reports "cold" to the ECU, and the ECU dumps all kinds of fuel into the combustion chambers so the car will start easily. As the engine (coolant) warms up, the sensor tells the ECU and the ECU leans out the mixture. This continues until the engine is fully warmed up. Then, for some unexplained reason, a faulty sensor just dies. It reports "cold" to the ECU, but you'll never know it while you're driving. The PGM-FI system compensates and leans out the mix. But... when you try to RE-START the warm engine, the ECU sees the "cold" signal from the dead sensor... and it floods the engine with fuel! As soon as the engine cools off, you'll be okay again, cuz the engine will need all that extra fuel. You can watch the sensor voltage with a voltmeter or a scope with a wide time-base. Here's how. If you have somewhere around .5V on a fully warm engine, this is your problem. Hope this helps. |

Forget the odometer thing. My dumb. Installed a new COSTCO battery, my hands are not all THAT bloody! Maybe that will fix my re-starting when warm problem? Since I reversed the hood switch no more alarms. Removed the little bracket held on by two Phillips head screws and reversed it so I could securely fasten the hood switch upside down. |
