hey guys, i just worked on a 2001 1.7 el, and heres my problem : the car cant move anymore either in drive or reverse, drained the oil and it was really black. now is there a filter on these models?

and does it mean the trans is finished or should i just change the fluid first and try if it works again ?

There's really no serviceable filter per se. You probably can try draining and filling the transmission fluid with some fresh Honda ATF, but I doubt you'll really get anywhere. Pretty much that transmission is toast. The good thing is that these transmissions are pretty plentiful used in junk yards (also look for them from 01-05 Honda Civic EX, should be the same thing), so the price on a used unit shouldn't be too bad. I know these transmissions are fairly weak when it comes to having power adders on the engine, however if all things are stock, they seem to do pretty well unless they have been filled with an ATF other than Honda's fluid. I do need to see if 01 Civic owners are having issues with their auto trans as now they're usually hitting higher mileage now.
