Hello i have a 2004 TL with nav. Im sure the Nav was awesome in 2004 but these days it's way behind the technology. It has an updated disk in there i think a 2006 or 2007 but it sometimes can't find things that have been around for 20 years and when i do a search sometimes it pulls up things across the country which is complete crap. The voice recognition is awful.

I understand there is a new disk but it only updates the maps. The operating system is still way behind. It's not like buying a 2012 TL with nav just because you got a new disk.

Is there any way to update the nav part with a new unit and everything work. Does anyone have this car with an updated disk? How does it work compared to an iphone app. Thanks

Voice recognition has nothing to do with Nav. The voice record boxes in early models go bad often that's why your car cant understand you. #2 I have the 2012 disk. I live in centreville MD. Look it up. There's nothing my Nav can find there and my town is really in bum fuck nowhere

I've never heard of the "voice record box" go bad.
The mic itself is apart of the HFL unit on the overhead console.
If a mic goes bad, that means the whole HFL unit has to be replaced.

The HVAC shouldn't be turned on and the windows should be rolled up when using the voice command.

I went ahead and just purchased the 2012 disk hopefully that will get me closer to something acceptable. We live in Austin TX so it's pretty big so hopefully it's something they have updated.

The stereo sounds so awesome It's just hard to abandon it because it is tied into the nav and just replacing the nav with a new nav i was told wouldn't happen. Plus the buttons are not on the touchscreen they are below the screen in the panel so it would have to be made for the car to look right. I just wasn't thinking everything through when i bought this car or i just got overjoyed by how it looks. The looks and drive are a 10 but the electronic nightmare that will happen trying to get something in there modern will also be a 10. I hear the iSimple is pretty cool for hooking up an Iphone. Hopefully with the updated disk if it works near as good as the iphone i will be ok with it.

But what is really annoying is i do a search for something i know has been here 20years and it can't find it but pulls up something 1876 miles away that's just fstupid. Hopefully the new disk has a better search or im going to send it back.

Thanks for the replys

as far as the voice rec. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I can be in the car without the motor running air conditioner off and it is still POS. If i receive a call the mic and speakers sound pretty good but as far as it detecting what i am saying is't a pos. The iphone does pretty well most of the time.
