AC self diagnosis function

while looking up stuff for 96TL i stumbled upon this.

our climate control unit has a self diagnosis function.

turn the ignition switch ON (II), then press both the AUTO and OFF buttons at the same time. while the buttons are pressed, indicator lights A, B, C, D, E and F respectively will come on to indicate a faulty component

these indicators are basically the fan sppeds
there are five bars that indicate the fan speeds, let's just call them bar 1-5 from left to right.

A: bars 1,2,and 5 are lit up. problem with that is the in car temperature sensor.

B: bars 1,3, 5 are lit up. outside air temperaure sensor

C: bars 1, 4, 5. sunlight sensor

D: an arrow that shows that air is coming from the feet vents. evaporator temperature sensor is messed up.

E: ON. air mix control motor

F: OFF. Blower motor.

In case of multiple problems, the respective indicator lights will come on. If indicator lights a,b,c,d, and e comes on at the same time, there may be an open in the common ground wire of the sensors.

Resetting the self diagnosis function.

turning the ignition switch OFF will cancen the self diagnosis function.

Wow thats pretty cool. I have to get a helm manual. How much did it cost you and where did you get it?
60 bucks for the book and like 15 bucks for shipping cause this book is heavy. got it at www.helminc.com i don't remember if that's the actual web site, but it's a helm book. i'm surprised you don't have one, it's very helpful. definately a good investment.
When I tried that tonight bars 1, 4, 5 (sunlight sensor) lit up. Whats a sunlight sensor do?
i think it has somethign to do with the day time running lights? and since we don't have those, i don't think it really matters.

Ah, thats probably why it thinks theres something wrong with the sunlight sensor. There isnt any! lol :D
cool

Ya the digital air control we have is interesting, and at first was confusing.

that's the supplement. the actual one should be around 60 bucks.
Don't you guys think that the sunlight sensor is the little sensor on your dash.... right behind the front windshield??? the is a little black plastic dome thing... that's the sunlight sensor for auto climate system... I could be wrong.
according to the car bible (helm's manual) the black plastic thing by our front speaker on the dash is the sunlight sensor. i don't think it's hooked up to anything though, but it's still there.
hey UNX help me out here, I swear Im not retarded. When you refer to indicator lights A-F, you dont mean that these are going to show up as the letters A-F right? A is just what you call bars1,2,5 being lit up all at once right? I tried this and the climate control just operated as usual, ignored me. does that mean I had indicator F?

He means the bars that indicate the blower speed. 1,2,3,4,5, as a,b,c,d,e.

thats what I thought. I suspected I had a faulty blower motor from an occaisonal whir, and I did this and got no bars.... good looking out UNX

The sunlight sensor is for the auto climate so is the inside sensor by the ignition. The auto climate reads the temps from both of the sensors and adjust the Auto AC accordinigally to the temp that you set and the temps that it reads..

I thought so too - I read that in the instruction manual.
