See more photos of the Acura ILX Endurance Racer at AutoGuide.comAiming to showcase the car’s sporty side while helping further develop its potential, Acura is taking its new ILX luxury sports sedan racing.
Set to be unveiled tomorrow at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, these exclusive photos show the track ready machine in its race-ready state of tune. With little but a roll cage inside, the ILX Endurance Racer is set to weigh in at roughly 2,500 lbs – driver included.
Built by the brand’s R&D division as an after hours project, the ILX Endurance Racer keeps the factory 201 hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and adds only a cold air intake and a custom exhaust system. Instead the focus has been on shedding weight and improving handling with a complete H&R racing suspension, plus Honda Performance Development sway bars and rear upper control arms. Large 18-inch Enkei wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich R1 tires also house upgraded brakes.
Helping keep power on the ground are some impressive aerodynamics with a massive carbon fiber front splitter and adjustable rear spoiler.
Honda will campaign a pair of ILX Race Cars at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, which takes place December 8th and 9th.
