Just got my Acura Navigation survey..

Check out question 14:

Are you interested in displaying customized personal data on your navigation display? Assuming Honda/Acura provides a website on the Internet so that you can log-in and customize information you like to be downloaded to your navigation system, such as stock quotes, headline news, weather, etc.

i think it should be doable. they can tack down where you are already, it doesn't take much to make them send more data to the navi system. you might have to bring the car to dealer for some upgrade, but that's it i guess

I'm not sure what the capabilities of the current navi system are (since I opted out of the navi system), but they could do something similar to what wireless phones do:

1) Traffic reports...like any tower within a 5 mile radius of a traffic jam will SMS any phone that registers on it
2) Targetted advertising...as you're driving down the road, an ad for a store pops up as you're driving by

whatever they do, its cool to see that Honda isnt lying around on their laurels, they are proactively getting user input. Thats a big plus in my book!!

The Alpine unit that Acura uses has a port that works with a cell phone. Hopefully Alpine will start to implement SMS-based traffic reporting soon! This service is reportedly already available in Japan and parts of Europe.

Well, it'd be nice if Acura would let us change the info in the unit...

My friend works for the PCS place where I got my wireless phone, so he knows all the "secret" SMS servers. I changed the SMS server in my phone so I can text message anyone on any network in the world, thus avoiding network limitations and SMS limits.

If it uses the SMS protocol, I could change the Acura unit to a compatible server that doesn't have the limitations.

Hopefully, they will ugrade the map database to include ALL roads, like Street Atlas USA or Streets & Trips.

I like the fact that they are at least asking owners what they think!!
