Hey guys...

I am going to try and tackle replacing my alternator on my 1999 3.2 tl. Before I dig into the engine I was hoping for a few tips/suggestions...

Are there any videos out there that relate to the 99 3.2 tl alternator replacement?

I am thinking the toughest part is going to be dealing with the belt. :uhh:

Just pull back the tensioner, remove the belt, undo the wires, and two bolts. Not bad at all

After the job's done, you'll need to perform an idle learn procedure.

To complete the idle learn procedure, do this:

Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, rear window defogger, lights, etc.,) are off.

Start the engine, and hold it at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant temperature reaches 194ºF (90ºC).

Let the engine idle for about 5 minutes with the throttle fully closed.

NOTE: If the radiator fan comes on, do not include its running time in the 5 minutes.

Ok so alternator is replaced with a reman from a local parts store...there is now in insanely annoying squeak coming from that area. In the morning it squeaks right when the car is turned on and then slowing becomes a squeak only when there are rpm's to the engine...

Suggestions?

Belt dressing did not help. My mechanic friend that did the install thinks its a bad alternator so we are waiting on a new one but if its something simpler I am all ears...haha :-/

Sounds to me like the alternator, when the vehicle is started, is going under load charging the battery, and it's too much for the bearing to handle. I'd definitely exchange the alternator.

So we switched out the alternators and the squeak is still there. Next step is we are going to replace the belt and tension-er on Sunday. My engine never made this noise up until fooling around with the alternator and belts so we are thinking just adjusting the tension-er could have tweaked something just enough to cause the squeak...

I still don't see though why it does it all the time in the morning and then only when you give it gas later on in the day...such a headache...and I hate being the "squeaky car" driving around...haha
