I've been driving an 04 Acura RSX type S for about a week. Its not my car but I have permission to drive it a friend of my girlfriend let us borrow it when her car got flooded for a couple weeks. He adores the car but is on break from college and flew home to visit his family for the summer and we promised to take good care of it. My girlfriend went to Walmart and bought floor mats big black rubber ones and she took out his mint condition OEM mats because she drives with high heels and was worried she might damage his original floor mats with the heels of her shoes like she did in her own car. I've been driving the car a lot and love it. I don't know anything about engines but I know this car has a really good one it revs high and has power. I've been driving the car really hard to be honest my right foot really enjoys squeezing that gas pedal to the floor every chance I get and pushing the engine to the red-line before I shift it. The car runs great and am not abusing it or anything just enjoying the power. I don't over rev it or anything but this happened. Today I was taking it easy just casually driving it. I made a right turn onto a main road and had a chance to put my foot down and couldn't resist temptation. So I floored it, when I went to shift into 2nd I let up off the gas and the car continued to accelerate full throttle fast. I pushed the clutch in but the engine revved up to the max the sound was horrific I honestly thought it was going to blow up. After a few seconds I am not sure how many but not long I realized the throttle was pinned to the floorboard. I kicked it with my foot but it didn't help. To avoid crashing the car I was force to keep the clutch in and used my right foot to tap the break and avoid running into another car. It was at this point I realized that the floor mat was holding the gas pedal. I tried to drag back the floor mat with my right foot to free it but I actually had to reach down with my hand to pull the floor mat back and finally the pedal came up and the engine came back to idle. The whole incident must have been about 25 seconds i could have been longer but not much longer. Did I ruin the engine ? What kind of damage could have occurred during this event? The car's engine continued to run but something seemed off with it although it could have been me nervous from the whole event. I didn't test it in anyway to see if the engine still had the same power I drove it a few more minutes and parked it for about 10-15 minutes while I went into a store. I feathered it back to the house which was about a 3-4 mile drive not flooring it at all. I do not think the engine light was on but I am going to take the car for a brief drive and see if there is anything noticeable with the engine. Please any advice on this would be helpful. Should I tell the car's owner about this will he be able to find out what happened to his engine ? I appreciate any input.
