Would you guys recommend adding a performance Chip to a '93 Integra GS? I've heard good and bad about chipping cars. If so which do you recommend if at all?

Also, when it come to tuning performance what should be done properly harness the integra's power? I'm new to hondas/acuras....

so just want some idea's i don't want to mess up the car either, ya'know?

Better question; if yo had an extra $1000 or so to invest into a 93 Integra GS. what would you do? Exhaust? Intake? Exterior/Interior? TURBO!? haha!

Just curious on what I could do.

Thanks Guys

A "chip" isn't going to do anything positive for you. Even if you added something like a hondata or AEM EMS, on a stock motor you'd net maybe 2-3 whp with a professional tune. If I had 1000 bucks to put into a car like that I'd focus on fixing any issues with it. For example, worn suspension bushings or a rattling interior. If theres nothing like that to fix (which I doubt on a car that old) then I'd go ahead and put boltons on it. Do you have any long term goals for the car or are you just wanting to put some money into it?

I see,
I heard that chipping or ecu flashing if not done properly could mess up the car's timing and lead to more major issues...

the car I got just was only own by two people previously and the guy I bought it from told me he used nothing by synthetic oil, 89 octane fuel, tune up and checked regularly. the only thing that really needs to be done is to tighten the alternator belt (it make a squeak sound when the engine is cold. then goes away after 5min or so of driving). and the air box doesn't close completely...

Really there's not much to be done. and I was shocked at the millage being at 222K and still running so well. The guy is a family friend and know how he is with his cars. haha!

The reason I ask this because he was going to sell it for 2500. but my mom and his wife made a deal so my mom would do his wife hair at a discount for a 6 months or so(the wife gets her hair done EVERY WEEK) and buy the car for 1500.

So i have an extra 1000 to invest. :/ and since I dont know much about Integras. I just want know know if I should look for any common issues or things that should be done to it for a sweeter ride.

I would just go with bolt on's mainly for that amount. You won't notice much of a power increase with a turbo if it is being restricted by the stock exhaust and so on. The performance chip won't really do anything on a stock engine. You can get some headers, cold air intake, and a catback exhaust fairly cheap. Or delete the cat and just run pipe from there and get a good muffler if you have no emissions. Maybe possibly do some suspension work. I am not sure if you are trying to just get some power out of the car and if you plan to maybe race it or possibly autocross it, or just drive around. Either way got to start with the basics first. Plus I really wouldn't trust even a well maintained engine with 200k miles on it that is boosted without it being completely rebuilt.

I am considering the suspension and cat back.

Really I'm not looking for top end speed, I would just like to increases the torque.

i noticed that my VW Golf GTi has much more torque than it and feels stronger in the 1st and 2nd gears

the accura really is just gonna my everyday ride and I want it to look good too. I get picky with it.

I just have two rules,1. No food(no cupholders helps haha), 2. Seatbelts.

I am in the same boat lol. I have a car I can use for speed that I am building. Just need something that has some pick up and having an automatic, these things doesn't seem very quick at all stock. My plan is just doing regular maintenance, do a tune up, cold air intake (should come with a filter so wouldn't need a new air filter), replace fuel filter, stick some seafoam in it to clean it out, and then just work on an exhaust that hopefully doesn't sound like a fart can. From reading up on it though, most of the bolt on's doesn't really increase top horsepower much but it does more mid range which would be useful to try and get up to speed on the highways. Plus having 200k on my engine I wouldn't trust a turbo unless it was very little boost lol.

I would suggest an intake over the exhaust as the exhaust will move the power curve up as opposed to down the way you want it.

Lots of stuff can be done as far as suspension goes. Hell, there are so many options, I end up sifting through all the crap just so I can offer good stuff to my customers (the older folks know me, I used to be a vendor here).
