what type of sound is he into (brighter, smoother etc)? What car will they be going in (need the size of speaker)? What amp will he be running them off of? What does the rest of his system consist of?

lol... I am actually getting used to you and your antics. I hate to admit it but just the other day I told my friend to buy a set of speakers because I liked them. Your bad habits are rubbing off on me :)

You will come to the dark side my son :).

Actually you know I have a legit reason. At the prices I get JL for...the price/performance of JL stuff is extremely low...a lot better than anything else I can find.

You can check each out yourself...

I assume you would compare the 8062's:
http://www.eclipse-web.com/products/speaker/component/component.html#8062

To the JL XR650 CS:
http://www.jlaudio.com/evolution/XR650CS.html

They look very similar in appearance...except I prefer the look of the JL XR crossovers. I usually have preferred the JL XR Crossover...especially now that in the CSi series it's switchable for the high range.

Both of them handle about the same...JL's usually go 75W RMS/180W max...with similar for the Eclipses...I'm actually running 200W each to my JL XR's. However I've always felt that at high power ranges...the JL's just seem to hold up better, reproduce better. You'd have to hear it.

The JL tweeter handles the highs IMO a good bit better than the Eclipse ones...but then again I feel like I get better response from the 90Hz to 200Hz out of the Eclipse system.

And my biggest reason for such a close competition...I can't get Eclipse 8062's for 200 shipped like I can with the JL XR650CS's.
