I don't want to start yet another transmission thread, I suspect all that can be said has already been said. But I would like to know if anyone who suffered THE transmission failure has managed to get Honda to pay for the repair LATELY, i.e. within the last year or so.

With the age of the vehicle, I'll be a little doubtful now. Maybe if you have a lot of history with a dealer, they may get you "shop" price on the transmission, but I figure that would probably be about it.

I had the tranny replaced in my 2002 MDX in 2011. The dealer refused to help pay at all. I had to send a couple of nasty letters to Honda management before they agreed to pay for half the expense. Since I have been a customer for over 20 years I thought it was the least they could do. The fact that they new about the problem tranny and never told their customers really teed me off. I guess life goes on. Best of luck to you.

The previous owner of our TL left the transmission warranty extension notice in with the manuals for the car. But in a 13 year old car with 150k+ miles, I highly doubt Honda is going to help replace a transmission. It really could fail for any reason at this point. If it goes, I'll probably go the JDM route and replace it myself, or if time permits, rebuild it myself.

no go

I tried this in early 2012 with no luck. My family has bought Hondss & Acuras for 25 years and no luck. They might have helped out a small portion, but my transmission failed on a road trip and I went to an independent shop. In hindsight I should have tried to find a dealer. I went through the entire complaint process with the service folks the dealers refer you to, but they didn't give me anything. Sorry.

Not that I've seen lately. You have to admit that Honda/Acura has been pretty generous with repairs and replacements....if it were a Ford or Chevy, after the 3/36, they'd tell you to pound salt.
