I'm new here. I was going to Purchase an 01 acura TL at 160,000 miles on Craigslist for 2500. The guy told me the car only had minor problems like No Horns & needed to fix the AC. but after doing some research, i came across a lot of people with transmission problems, should i go forward with it?. I mean reading everyone that had problems with it scared me whole lot. and any advice to prevent a bad tranny will be great, thanks

Well, in this case, I'm probably not going to tell you anything in the transmission arena that you don't already know. The whole key to longevity is driving style and maintenance.

If you tend to be a more "spirited" driver, it won't last as long as if the car is gently driven, but that's the way it is with most things. Ask the owner when the last time the transmission fluid was changed, and what type of fluid was used. It's pretty much essential to use the Acura ATF in these cars, as anything else is a roll of the dice.

If you send me an email to [email protected] with the VIN, I can run it to see if the recall was performed, and if there's any other flags/indicators that are in the file.
