Installed new spoiler...Question

I just finished putting on my new trunk spoiler and am loving it! The problem now is that the trunk no longer pops open like it did before the spoiler. I already adjusted the trunk springs and it still won't pop up. How did those of you with the same problem I have fix it? Did you buy new trunk spring bars...does that work? Please Help!!!! Thanks.

Unfortunately I had to get new spring (torsion) bars.....
How much were they Outlook?
are your spoilers aftermarket or OEM? you should not have any problem with OEM (mine is) because they are lightweight. the aftermarket ones are heavier and may account for your trunk not popping up.

i thought it's the other way. at least the one by ACP is much lighter than the oem one. with the oem one you would need to adjust the trunk spring but with the ACP one you don't even have to move it i believe
Well supposedly the ACP is lighter, but not lite enough, so i had to buy the new springs. The OEM's come with the new springs, it takes the tech about a minute to install.

They cost me about 39 bucks , but their about 50. I got the hookup in the parts dept. of my dealership. But the guy just quit :bigcry: .....
So if I order new torsion bar from the dealer, the trunk lid will pops open??
We'll keep you posted Paul...

That's about 6.75-7.75 inches more than what my trunk opens up now...:(

yeah i know and its safer too.. :D

u got any friendly techs at the dealership? walk one over to your car and give him a 10 spot for the i minute it'll take him to switch the springs...;)

Did you adjust the stock ones? You can make them tighter by moving them into the only other available slot. I did this and did feel that it was tighter and that once I open up the trunk, it stays open.

Hey John,

Which on better?

Getting heavy duty torsion spring from dealer
or
Adjusting the stock ones.

:dunno:
Hmm...adjusting is free, but didn't totally open up my trunk lid all the way before the spoiler. If you have a spoiler AND stock torsion bars and want your trunk to pop open, get new heavy-duty bars. If you just want the trunk to stop closing on your head, adjust the springs. If that doesn't work, get new bars. :D

Thanks for the info John,

I've just decided I'll get new torsion spring from the dealer. Pretty cheaper than I thought!!!
I have the ACP spoiler. Trunk pops open (meaning it's unlatched). It will stay open by itself if I open it all the way. Didn't do anything to the springs.

Think again buddy,

It really hurts when you get hit by the trunk lid on windy day.

From that day and on, you'll be afraid of trunk lid to open it and put your head down. :mhihi: :mhihi:

Yea, I just bought this car yesterday, NOT! I've had the car since November, bought the spoiler in the first week. If I thought I was talking to dumb shits I would have quantified my statement with a time span. I was pretty sure I wasn't, but I'm wondering now. One more time, "no bonk Tarzans head", not once. :bash:
