Is it possible to put a newer model instrument cluster into a 2004 base? I'm not a fan of the old school dot matrix characters.

nstrument Cluster Swapping
  1. The Coding from the OLD (ORIGINAL) cluster has been saved.
  2. The REPLACEMENT (NEW or USED) cluster is installed in the car.
  3. Battery voltage at least 12.0 V.
  4. All relevant coding and adaptation values have been transferred from the OLD (ORIGINAL) cluster to the REPLACEMENT (NEW or USED) cluster.

How do you save the coding and transfer it to the new?
From what I read, you need a special odb2 programmer. Or you can pay a service $150 to do it.
So the question becomes is it worth the 200--250$ to get it done. I found one on eBay for $40.

Did you ever complete this project? I have a 2006 TL that I was considering swapping a cluster from an '07 I have in my possession which was the year when they redesigned the cluster for the TL. I've completed what I call "Instrument Cluster Upgrades" in another vehicle with great success. But, it's not always straight forward. So, the only question is if the the two harness connections are the same and getting the programming done that was mentioned in this thread. I would appreciate more information on this topic if anyone has experience doing this.

i have not. but i just got an 07 cluster for $40 on ebay. someone said it will pick up the mileage stored in the computer. he's a acura shop; not sure if it's bs but for $40 i thought i would give it a try. i'll post my results. worst case is i go back to my old one. i did find one that is similar in mileage to my car but it was way more expensive.
