I don't know what it would cost but I know the reason car companies use glass in unibodies is because it's about 60% of your cars strength if it rolls over not that you plan to roll your car but it's something to consider
Perspex is just acrylic glass it's known for it's ability to bend instead of chip or shatter but when you bend it too far it shards off into huge and dangerous pieces just like non-safety glass and carbon fiber...
Lexan is stronger than glass but as badger said it's also not safe if it shatters you can put anti scratch coatings on it to help it's softness problem but it's quite expensive
wouldn't throwing a 40 just prove LEXAN isn't as brittle as glass which is exactly what I said? lexan windows are not bulletproof regardless of type of gun thats why it says it depends how thick it is a lexan windshield will still break fairly easily just not nearly as easily as a glass windshield it's just a weight vs strength ratio same as carbon fiber vs steel
a 1 inch LEXAN sheet will stop weak handguns a .32 and up will still go straight through any rifle will go straight through. Windshields are rarely 1 inch thick they usually range from .25-.75 inches(when made of glass) meaning anything with the power of say a 9mm or .22 pistol will still break a LEXAN windshield the windshield being the thickest window on the car this should demonstrate all your other windows would break even easier...
Rycon... you live a realistic world that has no place here people talking about their windows being bullet proof live in imaginary worlds where thats useful and in that world everyone uses low calibur handguns to shoot at them if only someone could figure out an immunity to bullets being as they are one of mans natural weaknesses much like kryptonite is to superman...
sticking to the answer to the question perspex sucks LEXAN is good but expensive for the benefits I would compare it to making all your panels out of carbon fiber yeah it is lighter and yeah it is stronger than the original panel but it's horribly expensive and when it breaks it's horribly expensive to repair or replace so it's really not worth it UNLESS you make all your windows 3-5 inchs thick and hope that your enemies with their bullets only shoot at your windows because 5 inchs of LEXAN will stop most high powered rifles unless you hit the same spot repeatedly and I think everyone is aware that guns just aren't accurate when you turn them sideways to fire so thats not likely
Type2 you'll have to define easy... LEXAN breaks a spring loaded or hydraulic punch, shoot it, kick it with a work boot, meteor strike... all of these things break both glass and lexan windshields main difference is how they break and how much they weigh for the same thickness
