Ever since I've had my car I had lines all over the doors, roof, front fenders, 1/4 panel's, hood and bumper of the car. They're from the protective plastic that's wrapped around our cars during shipment. I've tried everything possible to remove it w/no luck. Has anyone else had this similar problem when they had purchased their car? Would anyone know of a way to remove them w/o having to go to any extremes? They're really ugly marks, and seem to look like DEEP scratches, but they aren't. HELP!!

ok this is weird. obviously this didn't happen to me but have you tried going back to the dealer and talk to them? i think they are responsible for taking them out for you.

otherwise, try this. clean the area, then feel the line with your finger nail lightly and see if you can feel the line (whether your nail got caught inside, etc...) if so then that's not some simply scratches / marks. it's through the clear coat and there is no easy fix besides wet sending / high speed buffing.

otherwise, try to get something like the 3M scratch remover and some 3M imperial hand glaze / 3M imperial rubbing compound to see if that helps?

i am going to type a short tutorial on scratch removal after this post, you can read and that see if that helps.

but definitely try to talk to your dealer

Yea', I wouldn't think it'd happen to many people. I had the worst experience w/this dealer. From the moment I sat down, 'til the moment I left w/the car (2 weeks later). I've really been avoiding a return to that specific dealer, and would prefer to work the lines out myself. What these lines basically are is the adhesive on the protective plastic that was exposed to dirt. Now they basically won't come off!

Wow...I am so glad I saw this post!! I've had my car a little less than a month now and I just happened to notice 2 real thin dark lines on my trunk. They are perfectly straight lines, so I could not figure out where it came from....It sounds like this is my answer!!

When it was raining a few days ago, I took my finger and rubbed a small portion of the line (while it was wet) and the portion I rubbed seemed to come off.....It was not easy though. I'm gonna wash the car this weekend and see if I can get it out.

Good Luck JayPolosTLS....I feel your pain. It may not be as bad as yours, but It really angered me!

just a WILD suggestion, no idea if it works..... try to use dawn and clay bar and see if they come off? but keep in mind, you WILL have to wax your car afterwards, coz' you are getting off the wax

I had spoken to the dealer, and the mentioned that they use a spray specifically for these marks. I really just wanted to take the easy route n' use whatever spray they have. From what it seems, I won't be getting my hands on this mystery spray.
BJsTLS - If you manage to remove these lines w/the least amount of rubbing, or friction, let me know!

Will do! I will probably wash the car tomorrow (even though it's going to rain Sunday!) I'll let you know how it goes.

OK, it basically rained on and off all weekend so I did not get a chance to wash my car. BUT, I did get a chance to get a better look at my car!!!

I have the same lines across my hood, top of my car, and trunk!!! PISS ME OFF!! I called my friend who sold me the TL-S and he just told me to bring it in next Saturday and they will take them off.

I had to bring back my car to the dealer twice for this, beacuse my car is silver sometime it's hard to see. I think there is nothing wrong been picky. Thoese lines are very hard to remove for me.

Mine is also Silver. I've had the car a month and just noticed all the lines today. I noticed the lines on the trunk lid about a week ago but got a closer look today. It is very hard to see this type of stuff on Silver, which is part of the reason I bought the car in this color! (2 previous cars were black.)

Would buffing promote swirl marks? I'd rather find a mystery spray!!
I am in total agreement with you!! I'm very afraid of swirl marks showing up after they clean it. I'll take the chance though. If I have any swirl marks when I leave, I'll be sure to put up a HUGE stink!!!

if the guy is good and with high speed buffer it should be ok. there were a tiny mar on my rear bumper by those plastic, but they buffed it off with no swirls at all

Ok, I decided to Zaino my car this weekend but wanted to take care of these lines first......

Since I had so much bug "shmeg" on the front bumper, I used bug and tar remover to get the crap off, so I decided to try it on the lines......it came off, and easily!!! I then had my chance to Zaino.....!!

You are not kidding! It was bad enough when I saw the lines on the trunk, but when I noticed them on the top of the car and the hood, I could have puked!!

Small, minor, visual imperfections make me nauseous but when I can fix them, easily, myself, that makes me one happy man!!
