I know this isn't a Matrix forum. I couldn't get any help from that forum.

I was told that the Matrix need an offset of 40mm. What happens if I pick up wheels that have a 45-48 offset?

i believe you are referring to POSITIVE offsets with the numbers you posted, so this would mean that 45-48 offset wheels will mount DEEPER into the wheel well than the 40 offset wheel.
