Hello... I have a 2002 acura TL with 131K miles on it. My car seems to shake/vibrate every once in a while when switching from 2nd to 3rd gear. I also keep hearing this kind of metal rattling noise from around the dashboard. I initially thought it was due to some loose coins in the glove box.

but anyways, I took my car to the local car shop in MD and he told me that two engine mounts needs to be replaced -- " mount at front of engine by right strut tower torn & mount behind radiator is bad". He quoted me $680 for the labor and parts

It sounds awfully high to me. Can someone please tell me if I am getting ripped off. Also is it a easy/moderate DIY to get them replaced. If so where can I find the part #.

He's probably right

I have a 115K on mine and I have had to replace them a couple times. Never had a car that needed them, but the engine mounts like the transmission seem to fail prematurely. It may be a good idea to change them all as a loose one may start to degrade a new one prematurely also.
