Prognosis on my tranny? Anyone with failures help me...

Driving down the highway racing a Dinan M3...SS to 4th and the car start shaking uncontrollably back and forth...try to shift down and it won't...try to shift up and it won't...finally gate shift down to 3rd (after I slowed down). It slipped then caught. SS is very slow to shift...feels a bit floaty at times. Can I kiss my tranny goodbye soon? I ask because next month I'll be making the 800 mile trek out to Austin TX and well...anywhere between mile 50 and 750 that'd suck.

When mine started to go, it too got "stuck" in a gear and would not come out for a while. After that, it was OK for a week or so, then started happening again.

The next week I got the light display and that was that!

You are close, welcome.

i really think honda/acura needs to address the tranny issue....its just a matter of how the heck do we do it?
Dang~~ It started on yours, Austin? I see it goes down one by one.... :( When will it start on mine.
Yes, I'm sorry to say that this sounds like your tranny is starting to go. Mine has been acting up like that for about a month now, and it's getting progressively worse. Mine slips when it tries to engage 3rd gear sometimes.

Of course, I need to wait for it to act up even worse before the Acura dealer will repair it. I tell them, they're waiting for me to get into an accident. They shrug. :dunno:
Thanks guys...and damn. It's good and it's bad to hear my thoughts were right. Good because the tranny isn't supposed to act like this. Bad because it's going. :shakehed:. Hopefully I can convince the dealership here to replace it before my 800 mi. trip back to Austin. But so far it hasn't thrown any diagnostic codes.

Now when I'm driving along in D5 it feels like once every...20 miles or so, it will just slip, like I put it into neutral for a brief second, then come back. Damn damn damn damn damn

Oh man that sux. From the 'other' board oblio98 was saying that he had a good source and that any newly replaced trannies are fixed for good, something about the PCM.

Just raise a little hell until they replace it, hehe.
Make an appointment ahead of time and see if they can fix it while you make your 800 mile trip in their loaner! I say ahead of time so that you can get a better loaner (maybe even ask for a TL or something). Good Luck!

That would be good idea!!! :D :bigok: :beerchug:
If you have any problems on the trip, just remember Acura Roadside Assistance will compensate you for trip losses and will arrange for you to arrive at your destination and crap like that (supposedly... it's all in the Roadside Assistance booklet thing) so they might fly you out there if your car happens to die along the way. But that'd still be crappy, so hopefully they'll fix it for you.

I sure hope so...thanks for that tidbit it helped put a :) on my face.

ferizzo:
Heh heh heh. Actually my concern with that...what if they make me pay to ship it to TX? Not cool...and I bet those bastards would.

Throtex:
True true...but yeah, it'd still suck en route...with all my stuff in the trunk, etc.

Escamar:
Not until it throws a code I don't think.
