I was filling my tires (1999 3.0 CL) with a new air compressor today, when the compressor stopped working. I figured I had blown the fuse and did some investigation.

The compressor is rated for max 15 A, and the fuse (#1) is rated for 20 A, so I should have been OK. I pulled the fuse and it is fine.

I'm thinking that possibly one of the wires got fried instead of the fuse, which I hope isn't the case.

Any other ideas? Any suggestion on where I can check? I would like to not pay a mechanic to fix this. It's an old car and I don't want to put a lot of money into is. I am an electrical engineer so I can certainly test continuity/voltage/etc if I can access the right location. It would be great to have some circuit and wiring layout diagrams of the whole car.

You shouldn't need that. I'm assuming that you checked for power at the socket, so I'd check the voltage against a body ground. There's a ring on the back of the lighter assembly that can loosen up and cause you to lose ground.
