Mods could you please make this a sticky?

Well with all the activity acura CL section gets on this board i figured this would be the best place to post so everybody can see ;)

Ok here's the low down. Bitium from acura-tl.com is attempting to get this thing off the ground once again. They need get a large number of pre-orders in so they can get the product made and shipped. Apparently, Bitium and Tim from ACP.com will handle the money so Doug won't run off with our loot hehe They need atleast 400 people to get the shit made so PLEASE go over to a-tl.com and vote!!!!!!

They said it was a Type-S Mod only... Is this true, I don't see what's so different on a CL-P engine......
i don't neither... i remember people saying the gain on non type s is actually more than the type s coz' the type s has a wider throttle intake?

well seriously 400 people is NOT easy to get at all.....

plus, i am not sure if i will spend the money on something that i don't even know if it works

but i vote think about it nonetheless

It's not a Type-S mod only. I'm kinda power hungry right now.
$300 bucks is a lot... but there's no install fee. So if it doesn't
work, you can go back to stock in 5 minutes. If it actually
happend and I get one I'd be willing to sit on a dyno for a while
and test it.

how exactly does the RES work? and will it effect our warrenty?

side effects?

improve low or high end?
it replaces the silver thing at the top of the engine (the thing with 6 screws around). it increases the airflow. supposedly it doesn't void warranty, but who knows...

no side effects from what i heard

increase hp throughout the whole band. i believe 20hp on normal tl/cl and 15hp oh type s (this is wheel hp)

sorry I stated it wrong. What I meant was, I don't think res will ever make it to the market. At least while I'm owning the TL-s.:) I'll go on there and vote, but I don't man, what do you think?
personally i can't agree more. i started reading about the res days after i got my car last yr, and was all hyped about it....... yeah true, it's a real hype..... now everyone has read my 1yr bday post and the res still isn't here.

but i guess it's not blame on anyone. there are tons of stuff that were on words throughout these yrs for the tl and quite some of them fell through..... i guess market is definitely one factor. you have to admit there are less people out there modding their TLs than those on the GS (for example)

That's what makes me sad that the cl-s is making an exit. The next gen TL will get no interest with the exit of the cl line. I mean I know av6er's are here too, but the the CL-s guys is what got alot of the other companies even interested.:(

oh you have a good point. with the exit of the cl, the new tl will get even less attention from the aftermarket parts manufacturers..... unless acura really makes the new tl very sporty, like the is300 or the gs430, which will attract more enthusiats, aftermarket support for the tl isn't that bright :(

RES Information

(This is a duplicate of what I just posted on acura-tl.com. I was merely going to link you to that post, but I then realized that some of you may not be able to access it there for whatever reason, so I'll paste a copy here)

Doug called me at about 7:30 Monday evening to discuss the RES and MM2. Since he's been unable to log on to the boards lately, he asked that I share some information with you all.

The RES project has not been scrapped. He's still some $90,000 short of being able to make the first production run. I mentioned that there was quite a bit of interest on the boards lately and he seemed glad to hear it.

"Mystery Mod II" or "MM2" is alive and very well. We can all theorize as to what this is, but I do know that it's electronic in nature and interacts with the ECU. He began testing about 7 months ago and ran into a few bugs (mainly check engine lights). Apparently they've been worked out as it's been installed on his MDX for the last 5 months without a single problem. In his words, the [dyno-proven] gains for this mod are "almost identical" to the gains from the RES. He also mentioned the likelihood of MM2 being released before the RES, but gave no specific dates for either, nor did he mention any idea of pricing for MM2.

As some of you may know, Doug left Rick Case Honda a while ago. He's now working for another Honda dealer in South Florida and is still very much interested in releasing these items. I'm going to head down to the new dealership one of these days to meet with him and get as much information on these as I can (i.e. pricing, anticipated release dates, etc.) though him being in a new job might affect the timetables somewhat. I'll share any further information with you as I get it.

thanks for the update adam, i really apprecaite that. yeah i understand the downside of the RES coz' of that huge payment of 90k up front for initial production. not that i don't have faith, but getting 400 orders (note, orders, not just interest) isn't easy.

and the MM2 could be interesting. when you get a chance could you ask what's dragging the production of the unit? if it's electronic i suppose it should be relatively easy to produce (and even the time to market), and the initial budget shouldn't be as steep?

and last of all, of course, is warranty issues on both the RES and MM2.

All good points.

I agree getting enough firm orders to subsidize the cost of producing the RES would be tough.

I think the MM2 will be brought to market before the RES for the very reasons you stated. And of course the profits from that could be used to offset manufacturing costs of the RES.

I'm hoping to get more in-depth information the next time I speak with/see Doug. I promise to let you all know what I find out.

sounds good adam, thanks for the help, i hope it all works out.

btw, another question that came up my mind is, how would the MM2 perform when combined with the RES. you double the gain? no gain? if Doug can provide the dyno it would be good.

reason i ask is, last time i heard the two will give about the same boost, but the MM2 will be cheaper. so now if one of them comes out before the other, a lot of people would ask, should i get this now? or wait for the other? or get this now and also the other? which one will fits me most? etc... i am sure a dyno will clear up any doubts. since doug has all the parts i am sure you can find someone around the rear to test it out?!

again thanks for the help adam,
