Copied from my ATL post

I checked this out last night while driving.

Are you driving in AUTO or SS mode? I left my car in auto and it bounces back up to 1500 rpm when the tranny downshifts. .....doh....don't know why I didn't think of that yesterday.

Anyway.....enjoy!

Sounds like the torque converter is not locked up (normal).

Since we have a lock-up torque converter, it "acts" like a manual when locked (ie a drop in speed is followed by a similar and linear drop in RPMs), and acts like a regular auto when unlocked.

When unlocked, the drive side and engine side can spin at different speeds according to the fluid dynamics.
