Forgive me if this has already been asked, but I am new to the forum. I have a 2005 TL that I only ever used 89 octane and it has always run beautifully. I am getting a 2012 TL AWD later this week and am wondering if the 89 octane will be ok for it. I see they call for 91 octane. What do you use in yours and how does it run with it?

I had an '01 TL that ran great on all octanes. However, I just bought a 2012 two days ago. I guarantee that I'll be putting in 91... even in these crazy Chicago prices. 91 goes for ~$4.80 here.

I can't justify spending $45k on a car and worrying about an extra $2 at every fill up.

Just my two cents.

Could not agree more with putting in the top octane. Just bought my 2012 two days ago too. Not to mention, I do not want to run the risk of voiding the warranty for not putting in the higher octane (i.e. book says premium only).

Driving to disneyland in my MDX I put in 87 or 89. I can't remember which one. It ran just fine put I got something like 4 MPG less. I put the 91 back in and gas milage went back to normal. I'm assumming that the lack of octane decreased power and I had my foot in it more to keep my speed up. Thats my opinion but one thing is for sure it really affected my gas mileage. I did not calculate the mileage to cost difference.
