I beat non-Cobra Mustangs all day long. I'll admit that they aren't 'slow', but they are slower than my '93 Legend, or really any other Gen2 (91-95) Legend I've driven. Most recently, I (with 1 pasngr) bumped into a '02 Mustang GT Coupe on Outer Drive near Greenfield in Detroit. It went like this:
Approaching red light, there is some non-combatant in left lane, I pull up next to her in right lane, and the Mustang GT pulls up behind me, for a second, and then pulls around to the far-right lane (where u can park), pulls next to me, starts SHAKING HIS HEAD, and says to his girl "they gotta be kidding", she smiles.
Bad Move on his part. I take it out of D3(auto) into neutral, hold the revs to 2600rpm, and wait for the light. I launch on green, spinning up to ~18mph, GT mustang is right next to me. At ~25mph I look over and watch as he falls back out of my view. My Auto shifts to 2nd at ~41mph, he loses ground, shifts to third ~70mph, he loses ground. I notice he's STILL TRYING (the fool) as I approach redline in 3rd. I shift into D4 manually at ~105mph, and the Mustang is now 2-3 car lengths back. Now I'm outta gears, so I just hold the gas. I took it to a little over 140 (in a 35mph zone), and this guy was WAAY back there, 6-7 car lengths. I back off, start braking at 110, and intentionally miss next light (brakes are HOT HOT HOT).
This guy pulls up, and all HE can do now is smile! "I guess all those cylinders slowed you down!" was my response. His girl laughed. He stopped smiling.
I left that light spinning excessively, much, much smoke. He failed to follow, I guess the point was proven!
You gotta love the V6 4-door sedan that whups a V8 2-door "sports car" all the way past 140! Truly, TRULY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Drive Safely, Cuzzins!
(and shift it yourself!!!)
