installed my backup camera
I finally got my backup camera installed. I used a video switchbox from AV Electronic (http://www.avelectronic.com/NavigationVid-InterfaceDual.htm). It connects through the navi DVD player in the trunk to tap into the video signal. The new video source interupts the signal to the navi screen when there is power to the new source. So The camera is plugged into the video switchbox and I powered the camera off the reverse lights, so switching into reverse makes the camera take over the display.
I looked around a long time to find a camera. I wanted something small that integrated well. I choose a license plate trim camera. Most of them had a 'depth' to the camera portion that made it stick out beyond the recessed area where the license plate sits. I finally cound one that was less then 1" deep. I found two sites that had them, one is on eBay(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5835185804), but there are only a few left, the other is more expensive(http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5782.html), but volume doesn't appear to be a problem. In my opinion the look is very clean and the only hole I had to drill was very small - the diameter of the video singal cable. I drilled the whole near the license plate lights, so it's very hidden. The camera is small enough that it doesn't block too much light from the license plate lights at night. I've posted some more pictures and info at http://jt.inetz.com/2006TL/camera/
