C'mon. There has to be someone out there that's changed their rotors on the front end. Anything I need to know before I start? Wheel bearings? Anything?

 

There's nothing really too special about the brakes on these cars. On the fronts, you'll need 12mm and 17mm socket, large channel locks or c-clamp, rubber dead blow mallet (keep it on stand-by), and impact driver w/ a phillips bit. The rears are pretty much the same except you'll need either a caliper piston reset tool, needle nose pliers or flat head screw driver to reset the piston.

Unlike many American cars, the wheel bearings are fully sealed units and do not need to be repacked. Just have some brake cleaner, and some high temp grease.

It looks like you've gotten your pads and rotors already, but in case you haven't yet, let me know. I can get replacement parts for pretty cheap.

First off, Hello.
I need to do some maintenance on my 2005 TSX and ran across your forum. Lots of good stuff!

I'm about to change the rear brake pads and I am wondering if I need to open the bleeder before I rotate the piston?
Do I need to open the bleeders at all to change front or rear pads?


If I understand it correctly I will not need to open the bleeders, I would remove the old pads and turn the piston in with a large screwdriver.

I don't want to ruin the caliper, any help would be great.

DO NOT open the bleeder. Take the cap off the brake master cylinder, but do not crack open the bleeder screw.

 

Brake pads and Rotors are a simple task on almost any car. If you can't figure it out on your own, it's prob not a good idea to do it yourself. Basically just take off the old ones and put on the new ones.

 

well I have no intention of doing it myself but I have gone thru 2 sets of Rotors on my VUE ... yeah, yeah I know gt rid of the damn thing but it's paid off and I don't want a car payment right now so I'll make do .... anyway .. why the hell would my rotors keep "warping" is this a defect in the vehicle? also hat to replace the engine at this past spring (Dave, don't start on me!!! :mhihi: ) anyway I had heard that they had problems with this year and model, plus I just got something in te mail about a class action suit about the transmission of this year and make .. how do you go about finding out if this is something that I can get reimbursed for?? they totally changed the engine out I heard from a dealer because they had so much problem with it ... I dunno ... where should I start? Thanks, debbs

It was a nagging question due to my friend saying "he thought" you had to open the bleeder to reset the piston.
I could not find anything that said I needed to do that but I wanted to be sure.
