Anyone else having this problem? It's been raining lately and water always seems to get into the hole where the spare tire is laying.

Thanks.

As I remember, when this happens, it is usually a problem with the sunroof drain tubes. Actually, it's pretty common.

Not to be a search nazi, but I know this has been discussed a few times on here and you can probably find some better and more detailed info from some of the old posts.

Or the gaskets around the taillights, they like to leak too!

yup i had this problem too and posted a bulletin about it. it was a taillight gasket leak. make sure all the nuts are securely tightend on the lights too cuz i had one missing which was actually where it was leaking in to.

as the gaskets get old they will also cease to seal the gaps, all your nuts may be there and tight. In which case you can spring for some new gaskets or make some yourself, they are really easy to do.

u can drill a hole in the spare tire area to let this mosture leak out ...just becarefull not to go ne deeper then the sheet metal...and not drill into ne thing important....but yes, i belive ths is very common on these cars, i ve herd sunroof id most common, and good to hear about the taillights...i learn something new everyday

I had this problem pretty bad in my late teg. It was definitely the taillights in my case. I took apart the interior and the drain tubes were fine but when I ran water over the car while sitting inside I saw water leaking in through the taillights. I bought some semi-thick neoprene padding from a local shop and cut out templates from the stock gaskets and just put the new ones in with silicone sealant. Worked like a champ. *thumbsup*

I tried putting silicone on the stock gaskets but that didn't fix anything. I had to make new gaskets from the neoprene material.

I'm glad I found this thread. I thought I was the only one that had the leaking in the trunk problem. I have a '97 and every time it rains I have to get a sponge and remove all the water. It also leaks on the side where the antenna is.

I've got the same problem. I had a small accident on the passenger side and there is a dent next to the taillight and water is definitely getting in there. I plan on banging the dent back out and trying to reseal the light.
